2022 astrology: what you need to know
What does the 2022 astrology look like?
After the last two years, dare we even ask? A resounding YES, I say!
Why? Because having an astrological understanding of the coming year can help us to navigate with greater courage, confidence, and contextual understanding. Astrology helps us gain clarity and a bigger picture perspective, tying us into the greater web of life and helping us to make sense of our experiences. It helps us feel less alone and more connected to the rhythms of life.
I’d like to share FOUR major astrological unfoldments we’ll journey through in 2022. Remember, we inform the Mystery as much as it informs us –– these cosmic phenomena will serve as our dance partners this year, and we decide together how the dance will be danced. It may be dreamy. It may be dramatic. It may be intense. It may be inspirational. My guess is all that and more!
2022 Astrology: Four major movements in the sky
JUPITER CONJUNCT NEPTUNE IN PISCES
First up, we have Jupiter beginning the year in Pisces where it will spend most of the year (though this planetary giant will make a solid foray into Aries as well).
Jupiter magnifies, amplifies, and expands whatever it touches. So it will be magnifying the Pisces energies in the collective much of the year.
We’ll also have Jupiter traveling with and conjuncting (coming to the same place in the sky as) Neptune, which is the planet associated with Piscean energy. This Neptune-Jupiter conjunction becomes exact on April 12, 2022.
In short, this is bringing a major energetic imprint of Piscean/Neptunian energy into the whole year.
Pisces energy is associated with the spiritual, mystical, and transcendent.
With ideals, visions, dreams, and imagination.
With the timeless, intangible, unitive, infinite, intuitive and symbolic.
With empathy and compassion. Compassionate service. Heart Healing. Sensitization.
With boundlessness, dissolution, and surrender.
With endings. With grief and mourning what is ending/ended.
With ecstatic and mystical states.
With art, creativity, and enchantment.
With non-ordinary states of consciousness.
It can also present as tendencies toward illusion, delusion, confusion, deception, escapism, addiction, intoxication, dissociation, projection, ungroundedness, self-sacrifice/glorified martyrdom, poor boundaries, womb-wounds, collapse into suffering states, hypersensitivity.
Neptune’s initiatory function is to offer clarity and alignment with one’s true essence. It functions counterintuitively by first taking away the clarity we think we have (emptying us of what we THINK we know) to make room for something new, casting a fog that requires us to surrender our wider view and trust the next step in front of us as it is revealed.
How to navigate all this Pisces/Neptune energy:
Empty yourself of what you think you know to make room for new consciousness to emerge.
Address your patterns of escapism and evasion of your embodied human experience.
Become the Visionary Dreamer. Use dreams, imagination, intuition, and creativity to access deeper truths, to come closer to union with self and Mystery.
It’s okay not to Know. Learn how to cultivate presence and follow the next steps as revealed to you. Get lost and explore the places you find yourself.
Empathy and compassion are paths out of the illusion of separation.
Meet the grief of what is ending/has ended, allow it to bring you into deeper states of ecstasy (yes, that is possible when grief is fully allowed its expression).
Personalize this energy with your birth chart
If you want to discover how this Jupiter in Pisces + Jupiter/Neptune conjunction will impact you personally, find the house of Pisces in your chart. This is the realm of your life where these energies will be playing out all year. For example, my Pisces is in the 4th house, associated with home, roots, and my inner world, so I may experience a focus on these themes in the coming year.
USA PLUTO RETURN
Humans don’t live long enough to experience a Pluto return, but countries do. Many countries have been through a Pluto return but the US is about to experience its first. Pluto takes about 248 years to circle the sun and come back to its original position in a natal chart (in this case, the “birth” chart of the US of July 4, 1776). Pluto’s path is highly elliptical so the length of its cycle changes through time.
We can see this as a Pluto initiation for the entire country, and by extension, the world, as we are all so culturally and economically connected across the planet today.
Put simply, Pluto’s job is to empower us, but does so in an intense way—by asking us to face our deepest fears, feel our deepest feelings, and compost everything that is not true to our original essence (in this case the principles upon which this nation was founded).
Pluto cycles are often “Dark Nights of the Soul” that compel us to surrender to circumstances beyond our control in order to let die what no longer serves us. But the purpose is for our empowerment and to tap us back into our true sources of power.
The US Pluto return is happening in the second house, associated with resources, values, material possessions, the monetary system, desires, beauty, intimacy, and the body.
The Pluto Return is a long-felt unfoldment, with the energies ramping up for years before the exact return by degree, which happens Feb 21, 2022 and December 28, 2022. This cycle will continue to be felt into 2024, when Pluto moves into Aquarius.
How to Navigate a Pluto initiation:
Allow space for surrender
Denial, repression and resistance to the transformational process underway often makes things more difficult
Feel your feelings
Fear is to be expected: spend time in nature, learn energy tools, move your body
Diversify your resources, discover the raw materials you need to sustain yourself and lean in right there
NODES SHIFT: NORTH NODE TAURUS | SOUTH NODE SCORPIO
The lunar nodes stay on an axis for 18 months. From about June 2020 through 2021, the nodes were South Node in Sagittarius and North Node in Gemini. In January 2022, the nodes change signs/axis to South Node Scorpio and North Node in Taurus. This is a significant shift in collective energy.
The Nodes are considered our “time track,” with the South Node as our origin point and the North Node as our destination point.
We can look at the nodes in a personal birth chart to discover where someone is coming from on a soul level and where they are headed. We can look at them in current transit to get a glimpse of what is happening in the collective.
Essentially, the South Node represents where we have been and what we are releasing as we take a journey to the “other side of the circle” or toward the North Node position. There isn’t a bad and good here, but it shows us the path. Really, we can look at the nodal axis in the current sky as a polarity we are dancing with for an 18-month span.
The Taurus/Scorpio axis holds the themes of
sensuality/sexuality,
life force energy,
embodiment,
exchange of energy,
power dynamics
and eros.
During this cycle where the North Node is in Taurus and the South in Scorpio, we might be asked to shed some of the unhealthy Scorpionic patterns of destructive power dynamics, toxic secrets, the inability or unwillingness to feel fully, inorganic fears, personal disempowerment, over-attachment to outcome, and the use of punishment and possession as a means to control.
Collectively we are being asked to take things one step at a time with greater consideration, to inhabit our bodies and embody fully as humans, to discover what truly nourishes us, to anchor into our inherent value and root into our values, to return to reverence for the Earth and learn to receive and appreciate her beauty and abundance, to honor our needs, to find pleasure in being alive, even now.
We might be asked to let go of old ways of sourcing power, energy and resources, in order to cultivate a new way, more aligned with life. We might be asked to do something beautiful with the depths, to make art from the ache.
We might learn the value in keeping the kinds of secrets that serve an inner alchemical transformation inside of us, while exposing those lies and truths that have been kept hidden past expiration.
We might be asked to get intimate with our deepest feelings.
We may have access to deep feminine embodied wisdom (if we are lucky ;)
Intimacy as an art form, and pleasure as a valid path, are also on offer for exploration.
How to Navigate the Nodal Axis Shift
· Resource your value from deep within
· Return to the organic and natural
· Find pleasure
· Get into your body
· Do something beautiful with what feels intense
· Discover your sources of true nourishment
· Find what matters when all the noise is quieted
VENUS EMBARKS ON NEW 19 MONTH CYCLE AS CAPRICORN METAGODDESS
with Conjunctions to Mars + Pluto
Venus represents the feminine principle in all Creation, and has resonance with our relationships, resources, beauty, relatedness, and heart connections.
We begin the year with Venus in retrograde, which she does only a few weeks every 1.5 years or so. She is in her Metamorphosis or Chrysalis phase in the first weeks of January. This is a time where she is completing her Gemini cycle and preparing to embark on a new heroine’s journey with the overarching energy of Capricorn.
In her new 19-month cycle in Capricorn, she is exploring themes of her own authority, personal responsibility, and her capacity to be a good leader, a pillar in her community, and grow into a wise elder. She is exploring how to build the systems and structures that will truly serve Life and future generations. She is on a journey to explore what will and will not work in the building of new life in the midst of massive transformation.
She travels with Mars for a long period in the first quarter of the year, suggesting the masculine and feminine in all Creation will be in deep intimate conversation for an extended period this year. Venus also has a series of meetings with Pluto early in the year. In October, she has a very close dance with the Sun for an extended period of time, as she journeys through the underworld, far from the Earth.
How to Navigate the Venus in Capricorn Cycle:
Discover your own personal authority
Anchor into your own wisdom
Discover what leadership means to you and what you are here to wisely contribute to Life
Build systems and structures that deeply serve Life
Respect yourself
Put yourself on the path to becoming a good elder
Find what works now.
