New Moon in Virgo | September 2021
New Moon at 14 Virgo
6 September 2021
8:52pm EST
Welcome to the New Moon in Virgo, lovelies. I am transitioning to using video more to share my astrological musings, and here is my video report for this lunation.
New Moon in Virgo
This new moon in Virgo is an invitation for us to become new with the archetype of Virgo. Virgo is a feminine earth sign. She is devoted to bringing spirit into matter to HONOR it. This is the involutionary path.
As an Earth sign, Virgo is interested in serving Gaia and all of life. Virgo is connected to our sensory knowing, what we observe through the senses: touch, taste, hear, see and smell. She is the sacred space holder and tender, the keeper of the inner fire and the central fire of the hearth (heart+ earth), the ceremonialist, and the one who knows how to observe and ally with the cycles, rhythms, and seasons of life. She is equally at home with plants as she is in the unseen realms. The Virgo is the Sacred Priest or Priestess archetype. She is devoted to her sacred work and to spirit.
Energetically, Virgo is associated with the energies of focus, devotion, containment, and discernment. She is whole unto herself and knows how to restore her energetic sovereignty.
Your invitation this month is to dance with this archetype within you.
This month is a great time to:
Spend restorative solo time in nature
Choose a cycle to observe closely, or a nature being to watch change
Prioritize harmonizing with your inner rhythms
Build an altar
Create a personal ceremony that aligns with this season of your life
Asteroid Goddess Vesta
While Western astrology espouses rulership of Virgo to Mercury (which I see as purity of perception or sacred seership), Shamanic Astrology correlates the archetype of Virgo most closely with the asteroid Vesta. Because she is a little-known planetary player to many of us, I wanted to share a bit more about Vesta astrologically, to further illuminate the themes of Virgo.
Vesta, known by the ancient Greeks as Hestia and stemming from the root sound “vas” in Sanskrit meaning “shining”, is the goddess of the hearth and the keeper of the sacred flame.
For most of human life, the fire was placed at the center of human activity. Go into any older home and you’ll often see the fireplace situated at the center of the home. The hearth is at the center. The sacred fire has also been at the center of human activity going much further back. If you consider the territoriality of the human animal, the center is the safe space where warmth, nurturing, giving birth to and tending life, and deep connection takes place. The boundaries or edges of one’s territory are where things must be protected and defended. Vesta, keeper of the central fire, tends and protects what is precious at the Center of our beings and our Relations.
Vesta is also associated with the Virgin archetype, but not as that word has been corrupted through patriarchal times. Virgin meaning whole unto one’s self, one who knows how to come back to center and to contain her energies, even as she expresses and mingles her energies with others, sexually or otherwise.
I have much more to say about Vesta and the Virgin, and will be teaching a Masterclass on Mending the Virgin-Whore Split next week (mid September 2021). You can register for that here.
Chandra Symbol for New Moon in Virgo + this lunation
A man inherits a vast fortune.
Aristocracy takes many forms. Whether by karmic predisposition or by bloodline or both, being granted the ultimate pedigree for serving effectively. Those who have ruled can serve. Those who have mastered can give themselves over. Those who have attained can extract the essence of what they have come to before and utterly discard the rest.
Showered with blessings.
Filled to overflowing with the streams of your background, you are yet definitely motivated to use all this as a springboard and not to lean back on it.
You feel the impulse to renew gifts, treasures and mysteries––to revitalize the old streams, to make relevant and essential what has previously proven to be steady and enduring.
And most of all, endowed with a fluency in drawing from the well something fresh and new, and being so at home in bringing it all through that you become an individual here in the midst of things, who just happens to know and be familiar with just about anything you need to access from the well that never runs dry.
Aristocracy: privilege. An ancestral line of service. What has been given to us without earning it. The vast fortune we have been gifted (inheritance) by lineage. “Overflowing blessings from our backgrounds.” And by so having, come to serve. To use these gifts as a motivating force forward.
The impulse to renew and revitalize what is steady and enduring. Being able to access whatever is needed from the deep well because we are endowed with the fluency to do so.
What are the gifts of your lineage and what ways might they help you serve at this time?
What steady and enduring truths can we make relevant and essential again?
How can we serve with what we’ve been given/granted/inherited?
What is this deep well from which we draw that can never run dry?
To what are you devoted?
