Summer Solstice, New Moon in Cancer, and Solar Eclipse | June 2020

Today marks the June Solstice (also called the North Solstice), the Sun moving into Cancer, a New Moon in Cancer, and a Solar Eclipse, with an astrological alignment that hasn’t taken place in 26,000 years. Whew!

This is all taking place at the Galactic Cross, a place in the sky where the plane of our solar system meets the plane of the Galaxy. We are in what the Lakota called the Sacred Hoop, this circle of stars thought to be where our souls come from. Also a place of deep purification.

The eclipse path draws over Tibet, a sacred land where exiles and wisdom keepers have long sought respite, the indigenous have stood again and again for their sovereignty, and where freedom has been long threatened. It is also the highest place on earth and home to some of the most sacred wisdom-keeping mountains on our planet.

This New Moon Solar eclipse is at the zero point of Cancer, the Axis Mundi, the spine of the earth. New Moons give us an opportunity to renew our relationship to the archetypal energies of the sign. Cancer is the Great Mother archetype, the one who feels and loves her kin, the one who helps others feel as if they belong and are safe, she protects + nurtures the vulnerable, she holds those who are in pain and witnesses them in her vast embrace. She represents home, and shelter and safety in the deepest sense. She also represents the lineage. She embodies the medicine of generous unconditional love.

This is a time to come home to the center of your being and resource there. To be a nurturing generative adult that possesses heart-centered thinking, deep care and compassion for self and others; is boldly resourceful, earth-loving, able to hold and contain big emotions, competent in taking wise action in the world, loving of the human family. Occupy your niche in the great Family of Things. Remember that we belong to each other, everything else is a false bill of goods we were sold long ago.

This moment is an opportunity to heal our ancestral wounds and patterns in a deeply embodied, trauma-reverent way that seeks to mend the bonds broken by false divisions, fragmented psyches, and forgetting. Go slow and go deep. Apprentice to the unconditional love of the Great Mother, as your guide for this mending.

This is a great call to embody our authenticity. To speak our truths. To bring voice to the exiled ones, inside and out. To shed that old worn coat of conformity, that once promised to keep us safe from the storms of rejection and abandonment, noticing that it only keeps us cold, wet, alone and unseen now. As you walk through this eclipse portal, the invitation is to find your wild unique essence and dare to shine it boldly and unabashedly into the world. This is what will bring your soul kin to you. How you will truly belong to this world. This is the medicine we come to your feet to humbly ask for now. We need your essence to lead now, not your fragmented wounded ones. Resource. Become child-like, innocent and new to this world. Dream in new stories while being present to those that must be spoken and heard.

Eclipses are great portals of initiation. Allow this one to initiate you into the kind of earthling this world needs in order to birth itself anew at this Great Turning. Be ridiculously kind and audaciously loving to yourself at this time. Seek the support of your kin and guides.

Reflections

How am I radically loving myself right now? How can I offer myself shelter, unconditional love, resourcing, self-acceptance and compassion, mothering, safety, the most profound care of body, heart, mind, soul and spirit? Where am I over-giving or self-sacrificing, feeling victimized, giving without knowing how also to receive? How can I gently and kindly course-correct?

What is my unique place in the great family of things? Who am I to be in this great global transition? What is mine to BE? How can express more of what I already am?

Meditation

Go into your still, soft space within and imagine your spine as the Axis Mundi, the spine of the Earth. Imagine your crown as the eclipsed sun, with its halo of light. Find a sense of belonging in the great Sacred Hoop of stars where your body lies. Draw your attention to the center of the belly, the womb or hara space. Connect this space to the womb of the earth. Connect this space to the womb of the cosmos. Be still and be bathed in this deeply resourced energy. Fill up. Rest in the zero point of the Great Mother’s embrace. Receive. Feel. Heal. Be well, dearest ones.
